Since the keyboard fails in BIOS and after a cold boot, this indicates it is not a Windows driver issue because BIOS does not depend on Windows drivers. The possible causes include a firmware or BIOS bug, an Embedded Controller (EC) issue, a loose keyboard ribbon cable or hardware fault, or Fast Boot or Hybrid Sleep interfering with initialization.
Start by updating the BIOS and Embedded Controller firmware. Go to Lenovo Support, enter your model (LOQ 15IRX9), download and install the latest BIOS/UEFI update and Embedded Controller firmware. After the update, perform a full shutdown and test with a cold boot.
Next, disable Fast Boot in BIOS. Restart the laptop and enter BIOS (usually by pressing F2 or Del). Look for the Fast Boot or Quick Boot option and disable it. Save and exit, then test with a cold boot.
Perform an EC reset by powering off the laptop, disconnecting the AC adapter, and pressing and holding the power button for 60 seconds. Do this after the BIOS update. Reconnect power and boot the system.
If you are comfortable, check the keyboard ribbon cable by opening the bottom panel and ensuring the cable is properly seated. If it is loose, reseat it carefully. If the laptop is under warranty, do not attempt this yourself contact Lenovo support instead.
You can also test in Safe Mode or after a clean boot. If the keyboard works after a restart but not after a cold boot, this could indicate a third-party driver conflict, although this is less likely since the issue occurs in BIOS.
If the problem persists after updating BIOS and EC firmware and disabling Fast Boot, it is likely a hardware fault. Contact Lenovo for warranty repair or keyboard replacement.
Since the keyboard fails in BIOS, reinstalling Windows will not resolve the root cause. Focus on firmware and hardware checks.
