An Azure machine learning service for building and deploying models.
In short, you need to register the provider - as the message states. In ML deployments, especially with Azure Machine Learning online endpoints or managed inference, the most common missing provider is Microsoft.Web, Microsoft.ContainerInstance, or occasionally Microsoft.OperationalInsights, even when everything else looks right. These are not always listed in basic checklists.
First, explicitly list all providers and check their states. In Azure CLI run: az provider list --query "[?registrationState!='Registered'].{Provider:namespace, State:registrationState}" -o table If anything shows as NotRegistered, register it with: az provider register --namespace Microsoft.Web and repeat for any others returned. Then wait a few minutes and retry, because registration is not instant.
If that comes back clean, manually register the ones that are often implicitly required for AML deployments: az provider register --namespace Microsoft.ContainerInstance az provider register --namespace Microsoft.Web az provider register --namespace Microsoft.OperationalInsights az provider register --namespace Microsoft.ManagedIdentity
Even if the portal says they’re registered, reissuing the command can refresh stale state.
If all providers are registered and the error persists, it can be an Azure backend issue tied to your subscription. At that point, open an Azure support ticket and mention “SubscriptionNotRegistered with provider showing as N/A for Azure Machine Learning deployment”. They can see the exact provider name in backend logs, which users can’t.
