My computer can't shut down or go to sleep

After the most recent update, I've found when I try to shut down my computer or put it to sleep, it goes into a weird state of being on but incapable of being used. Every time this happens, I have to force shut down my computer, which then takes time to open up again, since I could've damaged the system. Does anyone know what's causing this and how to fix it?

1

Open the old Control Panel (not the settings app)

At the top of the old Control Panel, set view to icons

Open Power Options

On the left, click 'Choose what the power buttons do'

At the top right, click 'Change settings that are currently unavailable'

Under 'Shutdown settings' disable 'Turn on fast startup'

Save that and close Control Panel

Then restart (not shut down) your PC and check if that resolves the problem.

If not, go to the support page for your PC on the manufacturers website to download and manually re-install the version of graphics drivers they provide.
