Using New Outlook on Windows for academic communication and scheduling
Dear @Rashidi, Saadyeh,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum. I am happy to assist you.
Classic Outlook uses a local cached mailbox and a different protocol, which allows it to display your Inbox even when the server‑side folder view is corrupted. In contrast, Outlook on the web, the New Outlook app, and Outlook Mobile rely entirely on the cloud‑based rendering of your Inbox. If the server-side Inbox view is damaged, all modern clients may fail to load the Inbox while Classic Outlook continues to work normally.
Please try the following steps to refresh the server-side view:
Turn off Focused Inbox
Open Outlook Web > Go to Settings > Mail > Layout > Under Focused Inbox, choose “Don’t sort my messages”.
Review any rules, conditional formatting, or Sweep settings
If possible, temporarily turn all of them off and check whether the Inbox opens.
Open Outlook Web > Go to Settings > Mail > Rules/Conditional Formatting/Sweep, and disable them temporarily.
Change the Reading Pane position
Adjusting the reading pane forces the server to rewrite the view state.
Open Outlook Web > Go to Settings > Mail > Layout, scroll down, choose a different reading pane position (such as Fill screen), and set sorting to Newest on top.
Try Outlook on the web in an incognito/private browser window
This helps rule out cached view data or browser extensions.
If the issue continues, please contact your IT administrator. They can:
- Disable Focused Inbox at the server level
- Review or disable Inbox rules from the admin side
- Perform deeper mailbox checks
- Or help you raise a free support ticket with Microsoft, so Microsoft Support can access the mailbox safely and provide more accurate guidance.

I hope this information is helpful. If you need any further assistance, please feel free to reach out. We are here to help. Thank you very much for your understanding and cooperation.
