A family of Microsoft spreadsheet software with tools for analyzing, charting, and communicating data.
Hi Randy,
Thank you for reaching out with your question about switching from Microsoft 365 to Office 2024 and how this change might affect your existing files. I understand you have been using Microsoft 365 for several years and are now considering moving to a one time Office 2024 license instead of continuing with a subscription. It is completely understandable to feel concerned about the safety of your Word Excel PowerPoint and Access data when changing versions especially after relying on the same tools for a long time.
You can rest assured that uninstalling Microsoft 365 and installing Office 2024 will not delete or remove your existing documents because your files are stored on your device or in your selected storage location and are not tied to the Microsoft 365 subscription itself. As documented on learn.microsoft.com removing Microsoft 365 only uninstalls the apps and does not affect user created files. Office 2024 uses the same file formats as Microsoft 365 so your existing documents will open and work normally after the installation. If your files are stored in OneDrive they will remain accessible even after your subscription ends although some cloud features may be limited. For a smooth transition Microsoft recommends signing in with your Microsoft account after installing Office 2024 activating the license and confirming your default save locations.
To better understand your setup are your documents currently stored on your local device in OneDrive or in another cloud or network location?
I hope this answer is helpful if you have further questions feel free to reply back
Regards,
Marcelo
