Hello, I’m Virginia fellow Windows user.

Usually a user would need to recreate the account & choose pop3 during setup. As pop is an old protocol it may not be possible to choose this on newer email clients.

To change your incoming AOL email setting from IMAP to POP in Outlook, you will need to adjust the account settings in Outlook. Here are the general steps you can follow:

  1. Open Outlook and go to the File tab.
  2. Click on Account Settings, and then again on Account Settings from the dropdown.
  3. In the Account Settings window, select your AOL account and click on Change.
  4. In the Change Account window, you will see your account settings. Change the Server Type from IMAP to POP.
  5. Enter the following POP settings for AOL:
    • Incoming mail server: pop.aol.com
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.aol.com
  6. Make sure to enter your full AOL email address and password.
  7. Click on More Settings, go to the Advanced tab, and set the following:
    • Incoming server (POP3): 995 (check the box for SSL)
    • Outgoing server (SMTP): 587 (check the box for TLS)
  8. Click OK, then Next, and finally Finish to complete the setup.

After completing these steps, your AOL email should be configured to use POP instead of IMAP in Outlook.
