I noticed that my laptop recognizes my touchpad as a mouse when i saw i couldn't scroll down with my two fingers. i tried disabling my touchpad but i could still use it as a 'mouse'

i looked up other solutions in which i tried to uninstall my touchpad in the device manager, but my touchpad is not present there:

User's image

Earlier today I did a hard reset (because of problems with task manager); this is the steps i followed:

(Perform a Clean Boot:

Determine whether a background program or a software conflict is causing the issue.

Press Windows key+R to open Run then type: msconfig

Press Enter

Select System Configuration > go to the Services tab.

Select and make sure to put a check mark on "Hide all Microsoft services"

Click Disable all.)

i tried uninstalling the two mouses as well, but then my touchpad stopped working. i tried resetting my computer but nothing changes.

Hello Joke Nijs, welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

It looks the I2C controller driver (Serial‑IO) and/or the touchpad driver have become corrupted. In this situation, Windows can't detect the touchpad hardware, so it falls back to a basic HID‑mouse driver and gestures stop working. Please do these steps:

  • Go to your laptop manufacturer’s official support page and search for your exact model.
  • Download the Intel Serial‑IO / Chipset driver (belongs in category: "Chipset" or "Serial IO")
  • Install it, then restart your computer.
  • Open Device Manager. Your touchpad should reappear.
  • Download the Touchpad driver (belongs in category: "Mouse, Keyboard & Input Devices" or "Touchpad")
  • Install it, then restart again. Your touchpad should work normally.
