Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Hello Wim Huizer, thank you for posting this in the community.
OneDrive syncing and folder redirection are not supported locations for active Outlook data files. Microsoft recommends that PST and OST files are stored only on local, non‑synced disks. When these files are stored in OneDrive, Outlook may lose access to them.
This error occurs because Outlook is still trying to access the data file using its old OneDrive path. After the file was moved to the laptop’s local drive, Outlook was not updated with the new location, so it can no longer open the file.
This is not a case of corruption or data loss. Your email data is still safe, and the issue is simply an incorrect file path. It is a configuration problem, not a mailbox failure.
To resolve this, first ensure that Outlook and OneDrive are fully closed. Close Outlook completely and exit OneDrive by right‑clicking the OneDrive icon in the system tray and selecting Quit. Verify in Task Manager that outlook.exe is no longer running.
After that, create a new Outlook profile so Outlook can rebuild its configuration and correctly reference the local data file location. See this article, Create an Outlook profile
Kind regards,
