Failed to upload Power BI report "PBIX" file to the Power BI Report Server while using Power BI Desktop (May 2025) version.

Server version: Power BI Report Server: 1.23.9274.14406 (May 2025)

Desktop version: Power BI Desktop: 2.143.954.0 (May 2025)

Case: When attempt to save a pbix file from Desktop to Power BI Report Server, it pop up an error message "An error occurred while attempting to save the report to Power BI Report Server".

When attempt to upload a pbix file from Desktop onto Power BI Report Server via Upload, it also pop up an error "There was an error uploading your .pbix file. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file."

Also, confirmed the above actions have been executed using Power BI Pro license.

Hi @Cherie Chu ,

PBIRS only works with the “Report Server” edition of Power BI Desktop. Using the regular Desktop will always fail with upload/save errors. Install the matching PBIRS Desktop version and re-save the report that’s the fix.
