I want to sell my laptop as I've gone back to a desktop and need to erase all details of me from it but keep my account for the desktop. How can I delete my account from the laptop. I tried signing out but that doesn't help, just seem to be going around in circles. Any advice please.

Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

Resetting your PC will remove all your data from the laptop. I don't think this step is optional, as the AI mentioned, because some of your data may remain deep within the system if you only remove files, accounts, and apps. Therefore, it's the safest thing to do.

Reset the PC as instructed in the article below:

After the reset procedure finishes and you are prompted for the new username, shut down the PC.

Feel free to ask back any questions.

To erase all your personal information from your laptop while keeping your account for your desktop, you can follow these steps:

    1. Remove Your Microsoft Account from the Laptop:
      • Open the Settings app by pressing Windows + I.
      • Go to Accounts > Access work or school.
      • Select the Microsoft account you want to remove and click on Disconnect. Confirm the action.
    2. Switch to a Local Account (if applicable):
      • In the Settings app, go to Accounts > Your info.
      • Under "Account settings," click on Sign in with a local account instead and follow the prompts to create a local account.
    3. Delete User Accounts:
      • If you have other user accounts on the laptop, you can remove them by going to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users. Select the account you want to remove and click on Remove.
    4. Reset the Laptop (optional):
      • If you want to ensure all your data is erased, you can reset the laptop. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery and select Get started under Reset this PC. Choose the option to remove everything.
    5. Uninstall Applications:
      • Uninstall any applications that may have stored your personal information. Go to Settings > Apps and remove any unwanted apps.

After completing these steps, your personal information should be removed from the laptop, making it ready for sale while keeping your account intact on your desktop.
