Multi-level numbering with style separator in Word not printing

Our multi-level numbered documents have been styled using heading styles and a style separator after the heading. Recently, the heading 2 numbering doesn't show the numbering in Print or Print Layout view. However, the heading 2 numbering shows in Draft view. The numbers will not print. We have thousands of documents formatted in this manner. We can't find a fix.

    1. Roll back to version 2511
    2. Save in .doc format
    3. Use track changes switch from draft view to print

    The majority of our documents are numbered with Heading styles linking the number level to the heading style. For example, Article I (level 1 numbering) would be Heading 1.

    Section 1.1 (level 2 numbering) is linked to Heading 2. The style for the following paragraph is either Normal or Heading 2. After the Heading 2 number and title, is a style separator, then the text for the paragraph.

    (a) (level 3 numbering) is linked to Heading 3. The style for the following paragraph is either Normal or Heading 3. After the Heading 3 number and title, is a style separator, then the text for the paragraph.

    We started having this issue about two weeks ago. I can't even type a document from scratch and insert style separators without issues. After I put in the Heading #, paragraph title, style separator it immediately gives me the next numbered paragraph. This has never done this before. In fact, I've worked with documents for over 20 years based on this type numbering/paragraph formatting and I've never seen it before. Thanks for your help!
