Hello,

I have a problem in new outlook for Windows.

My lowercase 'i' keeps constantly changing to capital 'I' even though I have auto capitalisation turned off, as well as auto correct.

I tried removing English as my spellcheck language, didn't help.

I tried restarting outlook after I changed settings, didn't help.

Here is image with problem and also my Microsoft Editor Settings.

Dear @Rok Vujanović,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

Thank you very much for taking the time to describe the issue in detail and for providing clear screenshots. That information is really helpful.

Based on your description and the image you shared, I understand that in the new Outlook for Windows, the lowercase letter “i” is automatically changed to uppercase “I”, even though Auto‑capitalization and Auto‑correct are turned off in Microsoft Editor and you are composing the message in Croatian.

To better understand this behavior, I performed a few tests on my side using different languages, including English, Vietnamese, and Croatian. What I observed is that when the display language / region of Outlook is set to English, the letter “i” is automatically corrected to “I” in the message body, regardless of the actual language being typed and even when Microsoft Editor is disabled. This appears to be tied to English‑language grammar rules, where “I” is always treated as a capitalized personal pronoun.

Because the new Outlook relies heavily on the Microsoft Editor service, some language‑specific correction rules can still be applied in the background when the Outlook interface language is English. In this scenario, the behavior is not caused by an incorrect setting on your side, but rather by how the Editor currently handles language context in the new Outlook experience.

The good news is that, since your primary writing language is Croatian, there is a practical way to avoid this behavior. If you change the Outlook display language / region to Croatian in Outlook Settings, the Editor will follow Croatian language rules instead of English ones.

After switching the language and restarting Outlook, the automatic conversion of lowercase “i” to uppercase “I” should no longer occur, and typing should feel much more natural for Croatian text.

I hope this explanation helps clarify why you are seeing this behavior and provides a workable solution. If you have any follow‑up questions or notice anything different after changing the language settings, please feel free to let me know, I’ll be happy to continue helping.

Warm regards,
