I don't see an input device for speaking or recording. I can add a bluetooth connection but cannot use the inbuilt microphone. I use Windows 11 Pro, Microsoft 365 Family. Any ideas?

An online agent assisted me and turns out I had disabled automatic Windows updates. Case closed.

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out and I’m really you’re dealing with this.

When you open Device Manager (right-click Start > Device Manager), do you see anything listed under "Audio inputs and outputs" or "Sound, video and game controllers," especially related to a microphone or audio driver? Also, to help me better understand what’s happening on your screen, could you please share a screenshot of Settings > System > Sound > Input? This will let me see if the microphone is missing, disabled, or hidden.

    Thank you,

If you are unable to see an audio input device for speaking or recording on your Windows 11 Pro system, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Check Device Manager: Open Device Manager and ensure that your audio drivers are installed and functioning correctly. If there are any issues, you may need to update or reinstall the audio drivers.
    2. Run the Troubleshooter: You can run the Playing Audio troubleshooter by going to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters. This may help identify and fix any issues with your audio devices.
    3. Check Sound Settings: Go to Settings > System > Sound and ensure that the built-in microphone is set as the default input device. If you have connected a USB-C microphone, make sure to select it in the sound settings as well.
    4. Reinstall Drivers: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, consider reinstalling the audio drivers. This has been reported to fix similar problems in some cases.
    5. Bluetooth Devices: If you are trying to use a Bluetooth microphone, ensure that it is properly paired and that Bluetooth is enabled on your device.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to consult additional resources or support for further assistance.
