How do I select text with a trackpad?

Until a few days ago, I could select text with my trackpad (Apple) by using 2 fingers and highlighting the desired text. However, this no longer works.

    Also, the link within it describes alternative text selection techniques which are more accurate & more efficient than dragging... and they work even when dragging doesn't.
