Dear Sandeep Kumar,

Thank you for posting your question on the Microsoft Q&A forum.

If some files in Microsoft 365 Excel are taking longer than usual to open, you can check the following:

1/ Check Where the File Is Stored

If the file is stored on:

  • OneDrive / SharePoint
  • A network drive
  • An external device

Try downloading it to your local desktop and open it from there.

If it opens faster locally, the issue is likely network related.

2/ Open Excel in Safe Mode

This helps determine if an add-in is causing the delay.

  • Press Windows + R
  • Type: excel /safe
  • Press Enter
  • Open the slow file

If it opens normally in Safe Mode, an add-in is likely the cause.

To disable add-ins:

  • File > Options > Add-ins
  • At the bottom, choose COM Add-ins > Go
  • Uncheck all add-ins
  • Restart Excel normally
  • Re-enable one by one to identify the problematic one

3/ Check File Size & Content

Although there is not many cells, the file might open slowly due to:

  • Too many formulas (especially volatile ones like VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDIRECT)
  • Excessive conditional formatting
  • Large pivot tables
  • Many hidden sheets
  • External data connection

4/ Disable Hardware Graphics Acceleration

Sometimes, display drivers cause delays.

  • File >Options > Advanced >Scroll to Display
  • Check: Disable hardware graphics acceleration
  • Restart Excel

5/ Update Office

  • Go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now

6/ Repair Microsoft 365

Repair the Office application

  • Open Settings from the Start menu and go to Apps > Installed apps.
  • Locate Microsoft Office, click it, and choose Advanced options or Modify.
  • Select Repair and follow the on-screen instructions. If the issue persists, repeat the process and choose Reset or Uninstall.

I hope this information helps. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to let me know.
