    Hi!

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand that it can be confusing why it just suddenly happened. To better help you can I confirm is this the first time it happened?

In the meantime, I have a few suggestions that you can try out first.

    Sometimes the search service freezes.

    Press Windows + R

    • Type: services.msc
    • Find windows search

    Right-click it → Restart

Then try searching again in File Explorer.

    Hi MOHAMMAD RAIS,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A!

I understand that it can feel confusing when printing works but behaves unpredictably if you do other actions. To better help you, can you share with me the exact error message you received? It’d also be helpful to know the printer model and how it connected to the laptop (cable or wireless).

In the meantime, I have a few suggestions that you can try out with what the Q&A Assist has given:

1 - Reset the Print Spooler properly

    • Press Win + R > type services.msc > press Enter
    • Find and right-click Print Spooler > select Stop
    • Open File Explorer > go to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS
    • Delete all files in this folder (they are temporary print jobs)
    • Go back to Services window > right‑click Print Spooler > Start

2 - Check for drivers issue

    • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners
    • Select your printer > click Remove (and unplug) > Restart the PC
    • Visit the printer manufacturer’s website (HP / Canon / Brother / etc.)
    • Download and install the exact driver for your model > reconnect printer.

3 - If the printer uses network / Wi‑Fi to connect

    • Press Win + R > type control > press Enter to open Control Panel
    • Choose Devices and Printers > right‑click printer > Printer properties
    • Open the Ports tab > if it starts with WSD, switch to Standard TCP/IP Port.

The behavior you described is often caused by print spooler congestion or an unsuitable printer driver, not the printer itself, and the above solutions should help somewhat. But to be sure, the more details are given, the better it is!

    Hi,

This usually happens when the print spooler or printer driver gets overloaded while multiple tasks are running. When you send a print job and perform other actions at the same time, the print queue may temporarily stall, which causes the printer to show an error. The job is not lost, but it stays in the queue and prints later once the spooler processes it again.

A good first step is to restart the Print Spooler service. You can do this by opening Services, finding Print Spooler, and selecting Restart. It also helps to clear the print queue if there are stuck jobs.

If the problem keeps happening, try updating or reinstalling the printer driver, since outdated drivers often cause delays in Windows 11. Running Windows Update can also install newer printer components. In many cases, once the spooler is refreshed and the driver is updated, print jobs process normally without the delay.

Actually i uninstalled the drivers and then installed the printer drivers again.

And that was all I had to do.

Slow or delayed printing on Windows 11 is commonly caused by print quality settings, network delays, or how jobs are spooled to the printer. Use these steps to reduce the delay when other commands are used at the same time:

    1. Adjust print quality and paper settings
      1. Select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
      2. Select the printer, then Manage > Printing preferences.
      3. On the Paper/Quality tab, choose a standard or draft Print Quality (avoid unnecessarily high quality).
      4. Make sure Paper Type matches the paper in the tray.
    2. Try a wired connection (to rule out network delay)
      • If using Wi‑Fi, temporarily connect the printer via USB or Ethernet and test printing again.
      • If printing is faster when wired, the delay is likely due to wireless/network latency.
    3. Reduce print job complexity
      • Large documents or pages with many high‑resolution images can cause long “spooling” and delayed output.
      • Simplify the document, reduce image resolution, or print using draft/standard mode.
    4. Optimize spooling behavior (helps when other commands are running)
      1. Select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
      2. Select the printer, then Printer properties.
      3. Open the Advanced tab.
      4. Enable:
        • Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster
        • Start printing after last page is spooled
        • Print spooled documents first
      • These settings help the system queue and process print jobs more efficiently when the PC is busy with other tasks.
    5. Check for general printer issues
      • If print jobs ever get stuck or stay on “spooling” for a long time, clear the queue:
        1. Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
        2. Select the printer > Open print queue and cancel all jobs.
      • If problems persist, restart the Print Spooler service as described in the references below.

If the delay continues after these steps, run the Windows printer troubleshooter in the Get Help app using the “Run the troubleshooter in Get Help” link in the referenced article and follow its recommendations.
