Can't login to GroupMe on iPhone but can on Desktop

A few weeks ago, my daughter deleted GroupMe from her iPhone (iPhone 12). Week later, she reinstalled it but it keeps giving her an error message when she tries to login. Additionally, the phone will not open the web based version. I'm able to log in to her account on our desktop. I updated the app on her iPhone. I also restarted the phone. I also reset the cache for the app. The wifi signal is fine as other apps/web pages will load fine.

Thoughts anyone?

I figured it out. I was using the Aura parental control app. It had been on the phone for a while but has not been great with monitoring and apparently now it was kicking her out of group me

    Please try these:

    1. Settings > Screen Time > [Child] > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Content Restrictions > Web Content Make sure it’s set to Unrestricted Access.

If it must stay on “Limit Adult Websites,” add these to Always Allow

    • groupme.com
    • api.groupme.com

If it must stay on “Limit Adult Websites,” add these to Always Allow.

     2. In the same Screen Time area Check Privacy settings like Web Tracking or Account Changes and make sure they aren’t set to “Don’t Allow.” GroupMe uses a small web login flow, and those settings can quietly stop it from working.

If you can, the quickest test is to temporarily turn off Content & Privacy Restrictions, try logging in, and then turn them back on. That usually confirms the cause immediately.

Hi, here are a few things that commonly fix this issue.

    • Check the iPhone's date and time settings. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and set to Automatic. Incorrect time settings can block logins.
    • Even if she uses the app, GroupMe authentication relies on Safari. Go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data, then try again. Clearing Safari data may help.
    • Have you tried Cellular data? Sometimes Wi-Fi filters or DNS settings block authentication. Can she open GroupMe or the web version when Wi-Fi is off?
    • Reinstall the app again, but also restart before reinstalling**.** Delete the app, restart the phone fully, then reinstall from the App Store.

If none worked, there are further info that can be found here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/groupme.

It sounds like there could be a few potential issues causing the login problem on the iPhone for GroupMe. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check for App Updates: Ensure that the GroupMe app is updated to the latest version. Sometimes, older versions may have bugs that prevent proper functionality.
    2. Reinstall the App: Since your daughter deleted and then reinstalled the app, try uninstalling it again and then reinstalling it. This can help resolve any corrupted files that may have been left behind.
    3. Check iOS Version: Make sure that the iPhone is running the latest version of iOS. An outdated operating system can sometimes cause compatibility issues with apps.
    4. Network Settings: Although the Wi-Fi signal is fine, try resetting the network settings on the iPhone. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will erase saved Wi-Fi passwords, so be sure to have those handy.
    5. Clear App Data: If the app allows, try clearing any cached data or settings within the app itself.
    6. Check for Account Issues: Since you can log in on the desktop, ensure that there are no security settings or account restrictions that might be preventing access from the mobile app.
    7. Contact Support: If none of the above steps work, consider reaching out to GroupMe support for further assistance, as they may have specific insights into the issue.

These steps should help diagnose or potentially resolve the login issue on the iPhone.
