Windows forces my monitor to "Disconnect this display" in the settings. When I switch it to "Extend desktop to this display" it acts like it works then as soon as I hit "keep changes" it automatically switches right back. I have tried switching display ports around and it still does this. I have three monitors, 2 Asus 144 hertz gaming displays and one 60 hertz Samsung TV. My main Asus monitor is the one with this issue.

I figured it out. I had to unplug the monitor for 10 minutes to let everything discharge fully, and then it worked again.

I found the solution on a random old Reddit thread. I have no idea why that works other than that capacitors take time to discharge, but I don't get why that fixes this issue. Anyway, thanks for trying to help me out.

Hi there! My name is David. It’s a pleasure to help you today.

I would like to ask you a few questions to better understand your situation and help you find a solution.

Did the three screens previously work correctly with that configuration (Extend these displays)?

I understand that you connect the two monitors via DisplayPort. Do you use an HDMI port for the Samsung TV?

Do you have a desktop PC? Please let me know the brand and model of your graphics card.

The issue could be due to a graphics card limitation; however, modern graphics cards with multiple video outputs should not have problems handling three displays with high refresh rates.

I suggest performing the following tests to help identify the issue:

Use only the two Asus monitors and check whether they work correctly with Extend these displays enabled.

In Display Settings, set lower the refresh rate on one of the Asus monitors — try setting it to 120 Hz or lower.

To do this > Go to Display Settings > scroll down and select Advanced display settings > at the top, choose one of the Asus monitors from the dropdown list > then select a lower refresh rate (for example, 120 Hz) > and click Keep changes.

Let me know if the shared information has been helpful. Regards.

It sounds like you are experiencing an issue where Windows is not retaining the display settings for your main Asus monitor. This can happen for a few reasons, including driver issues or conflicts with the display settings.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. You can do this through the Device Manager or by visiting the manufacturer's website.
    2. Check Display Settings: Make sure that the display settings are correctly configured. You can access this by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting "Display settings." From there, try to set the display mode to "Extend" again.
    3. Change Connection Ports: Since you've already tried switching display ports, ensure that the cables are securely connected and that the ports are functioning properly.
    4. Test with One Monitor: Disconnect the other monitors and see if the Asus monitor works correctly on its own. This can help identify if the issue is related to multiple displays.
    5. Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows is fully updated, as updates can sometimes resolve compatibility issues.
    6. Reset Display Settings: You can also try resetting the display settings by going to the "Advanced display settings" and selecting "Display adapter properties for Display 1". From there, you can reset settings to default.

If the problem persists, it might be worth checking for any known issues with your specific monitor model and Windows version.
