Hello,
“Task Host Window” manages the applications running on your PC and is responsible for closing them properly during shutdown.
This message appears when Windows cannot close one or more applications correctly.
Normally, Windows will complete the shutdown process on its own, so waiting for a short time should allow it to shut down.
Does it still fail to shut down even after waiting for a while?
Possible causes include:
Known issues caused by Windows Update
Third‑party applications, or updates in progress for Windows Update or Microsoft Store apps
Unsaved files that are still open
Applications that continue running in the background even after clicking the X to close them
Background applications that are registered as startup apps and remain active
Please try the following steps:
Perform a full shutdown
On the desktop or sign‑in screen, hold down the Shift key on your keyboard and click Shut down.
This does not bypass Fast Startup; instead, it temporarily disables Fast Startup for this one shutdown only, allowing Windows to fully close all tasks.
Clean boot
This helps determine whether a background application is causing the issue.
