Cannot access Minecraft Realm Stories but I have an adult account

Thanks for reaching out. The error you're seeing is usually tied to a specific Xbox privacy setting called "Create and Join Clubs" — this one is separate from the general multiplayer settings, so it's easy to miss even when everything else looks correct.

Here's how to check it:

• Go to https://account.xbox.com/settings and sign in with your Microsoft account.
• Under Privacy & online safety > Xbox privacy, go to Communication & multiplayer.
• Find "You can create and join clubs" and make sure it's set to Allow.
• Save changes, then restart Minecraft and try Realm Stories again.

Also worth double-checking — make sure you're signed into the same Microsoft account in both Windows and Minecraft.

Follow these steps to resolve adult-account features being blocked by Family Safety:

1. Confirm the account is not treated as a child account
   • If the birthdate on the Microsoft account is incorrect and shows underage, Family Safety and parental-consent rules will still apply even if the user is an adult.
   • Update the birthdate using the guidance under "I'm an adult, but Microsoft thinks I'm a child" in the birthdate-change article linked from the Family Safety troubleshooting page.
2. Check if the account is in a Microsoft Family group
   • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/family and sign in.
   • If any family members are listed, the account is in a Family group and may have child restrictions applied by an organizer.
   • If the account is incorrectly listed as a child, have the organizer adjust the role or remove the account from the Family group using the steps in the Family Safety troubleshooting article.
3. Clear stuck Family Safety settings on the Windows device Even if the account is an adult and not in a Family group, the device can still enforce old Family Safety policies.
   • On the affected Windows 10 PC, press Windows + R.
   • Type cmd and select OK to open Command Prompt.
   • Run this command:

          schtasks /run /tn "Microsoft\Windows\Shell\FamilySafetyRefreshTask"
     

   • Restart the computer.
   • These steps must be repeated on each device where restrictions appear.
4. If still blocked by parental-consent checks
   • If the service still requests parental consent, follow the guidance in Managing parental consent to either:
     • Correct the birthdate (if it still shows under statutory age), or
     • Complete/refresh parental consent so the account is recognized correctly.

After these steps, sign out of Minecraft and the Microsoft account on all devices, then sign back in so updated Family Safety and consent settings propagate to Minecraft Realm Stories.
