A family of Microsoft word processing software products for creating web, email, and print documents.
What you’re seeing might be caused by section breaks and header/footer settings. Your document appears to have multiple sections (you can see “Section 1, Section 2, Section 3…” in the screenshot). In Word, page numbers are controlled per section, so if one section isn’t linked properly or has different settings, numbering will “skip” or disappear.
Some potential causes in your case might be:
- “Different First Page” is turned on in some sections
- Headers/footers are not linked between sections
- Page numbering is set to restart instead of continue
To fix it, first, click into the header or footer of a page where the number is missing. Then look at the ribbon under Header & Footer. Then, turn off “Different First Page” unless you intentionally want the first page of that section to have no number. Click “Link to Previous” so that section inherits the numbering from the one before it. You need to do this for both header and footer if you’re unsure.
Next, with your cursor still in that section, go to:
Insert → Page Number → Format Page Numbers
Make sure “Continue from previous section” is selected instead of “Start at”.
Repeat this check for each section where numbering behaves oddly.
If some pages still show no number, it usually means the number was never inserted in that section at all. In that case, place your cursor in that section’s footer and insert a page number again, then link it to previous.
