Paste Feature is not working properly in Teams for 26072.519.4556.7438

Hello,

Wanted to see if this is an issue with patch 26072.519.4556.7438 For teams.

Issue: The paste option for Teams when right clicking in a message body is greyed out for a full URLs such as https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/ask/.

If you break the link via removing a letter (ttps://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/ask/) it can by pasted using plain text.

  • Tested windows clipboard via Windows Key + V, all copied items are showing properly in clipboard and can be copied using it. Standard ctrl + C and ctrl + V Shortcuts also work as intended. Issue is only for when right clicking with a mouse.
  • From settings > Applications > Installed Applications > Teams > Advanced Options > Reset and repaired teams.
  • Fully uninstalled Teams, Removed Teams cache at %appdata%\Microsoft and fully removed the MS Teams and Teams files
  • Reinstalled Teams, tested again same result. 

Update on this.

  • The Web version of Teams does work properly on this.
  • If you have version 26072.519.4556.7438 and it is working, if you close teams or reboot the computer the issue will start after that.

Upon further validation, we’ve determined this issue only affects paste functionality and have updated the Title, User impact, More info, and Scope of impact fields to reflect this impact statement refinement. Regarding the status of this event, internal testing and reproduction of this issue show the fix is working as expected and mitigates this issue. Users will receive the fix through the next scheduled platform update. We're continuing to monitor the deployment and will provide updates on its status at next communication time.

  1. Could you please let me know whether other users in your organization are experiencing the same issue?
  2. Additionally, do you encounter this behavior when using Teams on the web?
  3. Apart from updating to the newer Teams version, have there been any other recent updates or changes made to your computer?

Recommended temporary workarounds:

Use keyboard shortcuts:

  • Ctrl + V to paste normally
  • Ctrl + Shift + V to paste the full URL as plain text
  • If available, use Paste as plain text from the right‑click menu

As a next step, I recommend continuing with the workarounds above and reporting this issue directly to the Teams product team by navigating to: Settings > Feedback > Report a problem

In addition, if other users in your organization are experiencing the same issue, I recommend contacting your IT administrator to report this through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. Submitting the issue from the admin side helps ensure it is more visible and can reach the Teams product team more effectively.

Your company’s Global Admins can also report the issue in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center via Service Health, as shown in the screenshot below.

    I can confirm that this issue has nothing to do with any organizational IT Admin settings. Exactly the same issue is reproduceable in the latest Teams Insider build (26093.408.4582.3829(Teams Insider)) when signed in with a personal account (aka. Teams Free). The "Paste" option is greyed out, and the only available option is "Paste as plain text". This applies to links and plain text too.

    The same issue is not reproduceable in Teams for Web app (https://teams.live.com/v2/). All paste options are available in Teams for Web app.

    The behavior is not caused by the Windows clipboard or by the Teams installation. Teams intentionally changes how URLs are pasted and formatted, and there is no setting in the client to alter this behavior for a specific build.

    For now, use one of these supported workarounds when the right‑click Paste entry is disabled for a full URL:

    1. Use the keyboard shortcuts instead of the context menu:
      • Ctrl+V to paste with formatting (default behavior).
      • Ctrl+Shift+V to Paste as plain text so the full URL is inserted without additional formatting. This option also appears in the right‑click menu as “Paste as plain text” in some cases.
    2. If Teams shortens or reformats the URL and the full text needs to remain visible (for example, in technical discussions), paste as plain text as above. Teams currently has no built‑in option to disable URL truncation or change how URLs are displayed by default.

    If this behavior is blocking a scenario, submit product feedback from within Teams (Help → Give feedback) so it can be reviewed by the Teams product team.
