Microsoft Rewards and Microsoft accounts can be restricted or suspended when automated systems detect activity that may violate program rules or the Microsoft Services Agreement, even if the activity seems normal from the user’s perspective.
For Microsoft Rewards specifically, these actions can trigger review, restriction, or loss of the ability to earn/redeem points:
- Maintaining multiple user accounts.
- Providing inaccurate account information (false name, incomplete or inaccurate mailing address, nonworking phone number, or false email address).
- Using services that alter the true IP address (VPNs/proxies), or using bots, cheat codes, macros, mobile emulators, or other automated methods to earn points.
- Trying to earn points from more than one country on the same day.
- Redeeming points from outside the country where those points were earned.
If the system detects patterns that resemble abuse (for example, unusual IP/location changes, abnormal search behavior, or other signals), the account can be suspended and points may be invalidated.
Because community members and general support articles cannot access or change individual Rewards accounts, the only way to request a review or reinstatement is to contact Microsoft Rewards support so the Rewards team can investigate the account directly.
Use these steps to request review of the suspension:
- Go to the Microsoft Rewards support/contact page (for example, via the Bing Rewards/Microsoft Rewards support entry point in the browser).
- Sign in with the affected Microsoft account.
- Choose the option to contact Microsoft Rewards support.
- In the form, clearly state:
- That the account was suspended unexpectedly.
- That no VPN, bots, macros, or automated tools are used.
- That there was a recent move or travel (with dates) that may explain IP/location changes.
- The approximate points balance and recent earning activity at the time of suspension.
- Submit the form and wait for the Rewards team’s response. Do not submit multiple duplicate requests, as this can slow down processing.
If the Microsoft account itself is locked (for example, no Next button when signing in or a lock notice appears), use the unlock flow shown in the Microsoft account guidance:
- On the sign-in page, follow the link beginning with aka.ms/ shown in the lock message.
- Complete and submit the account reinstatement form.
- Wait for a Microsoft Online Safety support agent to review and respond by email. Do not submit additional forms while one is in progress.
To reduce the risk of future Rewards restrictions once access is restored:
- Ensure all account profile information (name, address, phone, email) is accurate and up to date.
- Avoid any tools or services that change or hide the true IP location.
- Do not attempt to earn or redeem points across multiple countries.
- Follow the search-usage guidance:
- Spread out searches throughout the day; avoid rapid, back-to-back queries.
- Do not spam random letters/numbers or click through content unnaturally fast just to earn points.
- Do not use programs, bots, or macros to perform searches.
Only the internal Rewards and account safety teams can confirm whether the suspension was a mistake and, if so, restore earning/redeeming on the account.
