Yes you can take the AZ-400 exam but you will not earn the certification as the prerequisite certification has expired.

Hi @Carlos Arias Álvarez ,

if your certification is expired already you have to earn the certification again by passing the required exam.

Yes. The AZ‑400 exam does not require an active AZ‑204 certification; it requires the related skills and experience.

For the Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert certification, AZ‑400 is one of the requirements, and the other requirement is to hold either the Azure Developer Associate (AZ‑204) or Azure Administrator Associate certification. However, that prerequisite certification must be active to earn or hold the DevOps Engineer Expert certification.

    So:

    • It is still possible to take and pass AZ‑400 even though AZ‑204 has expired.
    • To be awarded or maintain the DevOps Engineer Expert certification, an active Azure Developer Associate (AZ‑204) or Azure Administrator Associate certification is required. If AZ‑204 has expired, it must be earned again (by retaking the required exam) or an alternative eligible certification must be earned.
