I have been charged $99 for Microsoft 365 in February. Now I have another charge for the same services in June. I have only one laptop. Why am I being charged twice?

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

Based on your description, the second annual subscription charge was billed to a different account.

Kindly follow the guide on the official Microsoft website to investigate and locate the duplicate charge from Microsoft at this link:

https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/how-to-investigate-a-billing-charge-from-microsoft-398c5328-364c-d5e4-ea8f-f5ad60562a93

If you're able to find the transaction and if this happens to be a forgotten subscription renewal, you can check if they are eligible for a refund through this link:

https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/how-to-get-a-refund-on-a-microsoft-subscription-67dca30b-b323-44d5-acc2-e02f9902c472

You may also try contacting Microsoft Support for further assistance in tracking the second transaction:

https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact?SourceApp=smc2&ContactUsExperienceEntryPointAssetId=S.HP.SmcContactUsLanding

Type "Billing Issue" > click "Get Help" > Scroll down to Sign in to Contact Support > Microsoft 365 and Office > Billing and Payment Updates > Confirm > Chat with a support agent in your web browser

If you and the Support Team are unable to find the duplicate transaction in all of your accounts, you'll need to contact your financial institution/bank directly to dispute it, and they may process a refund, as this would be considered a fraudulent charge.

You may also need to have your card blocked and request a new one.

Thank you for your understanding! Please let me know if you need anything else.

Best regards,

Darhyl

The February and June charges are for different billing periods, not a duplicate charge for the same month.

For Microsoft 365 consumer subscriptions, recurring billing is typically monthly or yearly. Each time the subscription renews for a new term, a new charge is created for the upcoming service period. Even if the subscription is used on only one laptop, the charge is for the subscription term, not per device.

To confirm what each charge is for and ensure there is no true duplicate billing:

    1. Check the subscription and billing dates
      • Go to the Subscriptions page and sign in with the Microsoft account used for Microsoft 365.
      • Verify the subscription type (monthly or yearly) and the billing/renewal date.
      • The February charge will correspond to one service period, and the June charge to a later service period.
    2. Review order history and investigate the charge
      • Go to the Manage your payments page of the Microsoft account dashboard.
      • Locate the February and June transactions and select Investigate for any charge that looks unexpected. This helps confirm whether the charges are for the same subscription, a second subscription, or another Microsoft service.
    3. Check for multiple accounts or cards
      • If the bank statement shows more charges than appear in the Microsoft order history, there may be another Microsoft account using the same card. Use Investigate on the payment options page to search for other accounts using that card.
    4. If there truly is a duplicate charge

If the subscription is no longer needed, cancel it more than 2 days before the next billing date so that future renewal charges stop.
