Hello Microsoft Credentials Support,
I previously earned the Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals certification by passing the AI-900 exam.
I recently passed the AI-901: Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals exam on June 26, 2026. The AI-901 exam appears correctly under my Passed Exams in Microsoft Learn.
However, my existing Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals certification still shows its original issue date from AI-900 and has not been updated or reissued.
Could you please confirm whether this is the expected behavior, or whether my certification record should have been updated after passing AI-901?
Thank you for your assistance.
Kind regards,
Manan Shah

AI answer
This is expected behavior.
The Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals certification remains a single certification, regardless of whether it was earned via AI-900 or AI-901. When an exam number changes or a new version is introduced, the certification name does not change, and the badge reflects the skills associated with the exam that was taken at the time. Passing the newer AI-901 exam does not create a new certification record or reissue the certification with a new “earned” date; it simply validates skills against the updated exam.
Microsoft updates exams and associated skills over time, but the certification itself is continuous. Candidates who earned the certification with an earlier exam version still hold the same certification as those who pass the newer version.
