Why does my M365 show "Upgrade Your Plan" in the ribbon?

I have an active personal M365 subscription. I recently got a new laptop and installed M365 on it and signed in, but whenever I open office apps i.e. Excel, I get a message in the upper right corner saying "Upgrade Your Plan."

I've confirmed both laptops are signed into the same email / account and my OneDrive is replicating across devices, but I'm still seeing this message.

Hi,

Please confirm that your subscription is active here:

https://account.microsoft.com/services

If it is active, open any Office app (Word, Excel, etc.), sign out of your account, restart your computer, then sign back in using the Microsoft account associated with your subscription to refresh the license.

If the issue persists, go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now to ensure your Office apps are fully updated.

If the issue still persists, I suggest uninstalling all existing Office versions first, then reinstalling Office directly from your Microsoft account to avoid conflicts.

  1. In the search bar, type Control Panel and press Enter.
  2. Go to Programs > Programs and Features.
  3. Locate Microsoft 365 or any installed Office apps.
  4. Right-click the app and select Uninstall.
  5. Restart your computer.

Then reinstall Office using these steps:

  1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
  2. Sign in with the Microsoft account associated with your subscription.
  3. Locate your Office product and click Install.
  4. Download and run the installer.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Once installed, open any Office app, such as Word or Excel, and sign in with the Microsoft account associated with your subscription to activate Office.
