How to fix Print Spooler problem with HP 9125e Officejet Pro

Every time I try to print a Word document using my HP Officejet Pro 9125, I have to start the Print Spooler. I have tried updating the print driver through HP with no luck.

Does Microsoft have an update that would fix this issue?

Thank you for letting me know.

Since the printer works with PDFs and other apps, this is likely a Word or Office issue, not the HP printer driver.

Please try this:

  • Open Word and create a new blank document.
  • Go to "File" > "Print."
  • Select "Microsoft Print to PDF."
  • Check whether the Print Spooler stops.

If the spooler also stops, repair Office:

  • Go to "Settings" > "Apps" > "Installed apps."
  • Find Microsoft 365 or Office.
  • Select the three dots > "Modify" > "Quick Repair."
  • Restart the computer and test again.

If needed, run "Online Repair" afterward.

Please let me know if Word can print using Microsoft Print to PDF.

    Hi, Please try below steps

    • Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select your printer, open the print queue, and cancel any stuck jobs.
    • Open Device Manager, expand Print queues, and remove any old or duplicate HP driver entries — then reinstall the latest driver fresh from HP.
    • Press Win+R, type services.msc, find Print Spooler, right-click, and check its Startup Type. If it's set to Manual, change it to Automatic — this is the most common reason the spooler doesn't restart on its own after a crash.
    • If the crash keeps recurring, stop the Print Spooler service, delete all files in C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS, then restart the service.
    • Run the built-in printer troubleshooter via Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Printer.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards

    Arun V

    Hello--

    1. The print spooler appears to only stop when using Word. It prints pdf files and everything else including Clipboard. I don't use Notepad.
    2. Print Spooler is set to Automatic.
    3. Printer is connected by Wi Fi.
    4. It started quite a while ago -- even with my old HP Officejet 8120 printer.
    5. Using Windows 11 Version 25H2 (OS Build 2620.8894)

Having to start the Print Spooler every time I want to print a Word document is annoying. Any help would be appreciated.

I asked CoPilot about it and it said I needed a different print driver (HP OfficeJet Pro 9120 Series PCL 6 or HP OfficeJet Pro 9120 Series). The print driver I have now is Microsoft IPP Class Driver. I tried downloading this from HP but didn't have any luck.

    Hi, @Pamela Oldham

I could not find a Microsoft update specifically for the HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e. A Print Spooler that repeatedly stops may be caused by a stuck print job, damaged printer software, or the spooler service crashing. Microsoft recommends checking the queue and conflicting printer drivers: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/printer/fix-print-spooler-service-not-running-errors-in-windows

    To narrow this down:

    1. Does the Print Spooler stop only when printing from Word, or does it also stop when printing from Notepad or another app?
    2. Press Windows + R, type services.msc and press Enter. Is the “Startup type” for “Print Spooler” set to “Automatic”?
    3. How is the printer connected, USB, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet, and did this begin after a specific Windows update?

Also, press Windows + R, type winver and share the Windows version and build shown.
