Unblock Word, I do not need extra subscription.

All of a sudden, I can not edit Word documents anymore, as "a subscription is needed". But I have an active/valid Microsoft 365 Personal subscription. Microsoft blocked access without warning, please remove restriction a.s.a.p. I need Word urgently for my work.<<moved from Access>>

I can see that you are having issue with Word

Please try the following on Windows:

Open Word and select File > Account.
Sign out of every account shown, close all Office apps, and restart the computer.
Reopen Word and sign in using the exact Microsoft account that owns the Microsoft 365 Personal subscription.
Under File > Account, select Update Options > Update Now.
If editing remains blocked, run Microsoft’s Microsoft 365 activation troubleshooter.

You can confirm that the subscription is associated with the correct account on the Services & subscriptions page.

For urgent work, you can temporarily edit documents using Word for the web.

When I open Word, I see no 'File -> Account'.

NB when I try to activate existing subscription, I get 'unknown error, error code 0x0'

My annual subscription Microsoft Personal 365 was renewed June 7, 2026. I always use just one of my two accounts (e-mail addresses) for all Microsoft functions. I am not aware of any changes I made to my Microsoft Account and to issues related to my subscription. I need to use Word urgently. Please, unblock Word a.s.a.p.

Thank you for the additional information.

The steps previously provided were for Word on Windows. Since you do not see File > Account, could you confirm whether you are using Word on a Mac or Window?

NB: I wonder if this inexplicable blocking of my Word functions and documents is not a scam - a ransom/hostage scheme perhaps?

"An unknown error has occurred. The error code is: 0x0" Why is this error "unknown" to Microsoft?

Thank you for confirming the macOS version. There is no need to respond while you are away.

This is not a ransom or hostage scheme. Error code 0x0 is a documented Microsoft 365 activation issue on macOS. Although the message says “unknown,” Microsoft has identified the condition and states that the resolution requires macOS 12 Monterey or later.

Your Mac is running macOS Big Sur 11.7.11, so when you return, please check Apple menu > System Preferences > Software Update to see whether macOS 12 or later is available. After upgrading macOS, update Office through Finder > Applications > Microsoft AutoUpdate, then reopen Word.

If the Mac cannot be upgraded beyond Big Sur, use Word for the web with the Microsoft account linked to your active subscription. This will allow you to edit documents without purchasing another subscription.
