Problem

New Outlook is not syncing with one of my Gmail accounts (--PII ******@gmail.com).

Symptoms

  • My Outlook Inbox is not syncing with my Gmail Inbox (see attached screenshot of the Gmail Inbox compared with the Outlook Inbox)
  • The same is true of other folders, it is not just the Inboxes that are not syncing.
  • New emails come through to Outlook OK
  • There are no problems with my other three Gmail accounts.

Actions taken so far

  • I have deleted and then re-added the problem Gmail account in Outlook
  • I have deleted and then re-added the problem Gmail account in Gmail
  • I have deleted Microsoft apps & services in Gmail
  • I have uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook
  • I have uninstalled and reinstalled the problem Gmail account on Google

Yet the problem still remains. How can I resolve this issue?

Hi Martin Crowther,

Please note that our Microsoft Q&A forum is a public platform, and we will modify your response/ question to hide your personal information in the description. Kindly ensure that you hide any personal or organizational information the next time you post an error or other details to protect personal data.

Thank you for the detailed troubleshooting steps you've already performed. Since only one Gmail account is affected, while your other Gmail accounts sync correctly, and new emails are still being received in Outlook, the connection and authentication between Outlook and Gmail appear to be working. This suggests the issue is more likely related to mailbox synchronization, folder/label mapping, or account-specific sync data rather than a sign-in problem.

To further isolate the issue, please check the following:

  1. In Gmail, go to Settings > See all settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP and confirm that:
    • IMAP is enabled.
    • No folder size limits are configured.
    • The affected labels/folders are available for IMAP synchronization.
  2. In Gmail, go to Settings > Labels and verify that the affected labels are configured with Show in IMAP enabled.
  3. Test the same Gmail account in another mail client (such as Outlook Classic or Thunderbird). If all folders sync correctly there, this would indicate the issue is specific to New Outlook rather than the Gmail account itself.

As an additional step, you may also try removing the account from New Outlook, signing out of Outlook completely, clearing the application's local data, and then adding the account back to force a fresh synchronization.

Please let us know:

  • Whether the issue affects all historical messages or only a specific date range.
  • The version/build of New Outlook currently installed.

This information will help determine whether the issue originates from Gmail's IMAP configuration, the mailbox itself, or New Outlook's synchronization service.

For whatever reason, the problems seems to have righted itself. Except for some folders and files going back three weeks or so, my New Outlook is syncing with Gamil OK now.
