AZ-104 Certification Renewal Query and Request for Assistance

Hi,

I am reaching out regarding my AZ-104 certification, which I originally obtained on September 26, 2023. I understand that this certification expired on September 27, 2024. I received several notifications to renew, but due to personal issues, a high workload, and some health challenges, I was unable to address the renewal in time. I had assumed that I would still be eligible to renew even after the expiration date.

Today, October 27, 2024, I attempted to access the renewal process on the certification portal. However, I received a message stating, "Unfortunately, your opportunity to renew this certification has expired. You'll need to earn this certification again before you're eligible to renew it."

I recently passed the AZ-305 exam on June 25, 2024, which might relate to this certification pathway. I would appreciate any guidance on my next steps. Specifically:

  1. Is it necessary for me to retake the AZ-104 certification exam, or is there an alternative pathway to restore my certification status?
  2. Given that the certification expired only one month ago, are there any exceptions or grace periods that might allow me to renew it now?

Thank you for your time and consideration. I would be grateful for any advice or assistance you could offer in this matter.

Warm regards, Ayanthan

Hi Ayanthan,

The policy is you have to pass the exam again if the certification has expired. Below is link to expiration policy:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/credentials/support/credential-expiration-policy#role-based-and-specialty-certifications-expiry

If you want to see if they will make an exception, please ask a question in the Microsoft Credentials forum. There are support moderators over there that will respond typically within 2 business days.
