How can I cancel or stop OneDrive from syncing all files

I use one drive to back up a couple of critical excel files that I access/modify frequently. something happened today and I could not access these critical files - messages were maybe they've moved (no), open already (no), corrupted somehow...I'm not sure what I did, but eventually opened one drive live, and was able to access the files.

Now I'm freaking out and worried because I think the other/all? files are syncing, appearing on my desktop, not updating my critical files and who knows what else.

I admit I am mystified about one drive. I am ok with using pc/technology (not a programmer or anything like that), but do not touch underlying programs/code as sometimes suggested in solutions.

Essentially as I stated, I'd like to only use one drive backup for a couple of critical files, but the rest I am happy to store locally. I do have carbonite cloud backup in case of a catastrophe.

Can someone please help. thank you!!!

Hi,

I'm Rodrigo and I'll help you.

To stop the OneDrive automatic backup of your files, disable the OneDrive backup feature.

Right-click the OneDrive icon on the right side of the taskbar (cloud icon) > Settings > Sync and Backup > Manage Backup > Turn off all options.

This will disable the OneDrive Backup Feature and restore the default location of the folders. Your files may "disappear" but are stored in the OneDrive folder, you can move the files from there to your folders.

OneDrive has merged with multiple accounts. How can I untangle this mess?

We logged out of onedrive with one account and logged into onedrive with another account. Now we see both accounts.

    Hi Rodrigo,

There is no OneDrive icon on my taskbar or anywhere else that I can find on my brand new PC. After I accepted the invitation to activate OneDrive I started to have problems. Suddenly my Outlook mailbox is supposedly full. I can no longer send emails in Outlook and am told that unless I pay for more storage I will soon be unable to receive them. I uninstalled OneDrive but this has not fixed the problem. How can I get this program off my computer and out of my life for good? Thank you.
