Certain Keys and Left Shift Not Working on ASUS ZenBook Q406da Laptop

Problem Summary: On my ASUS ZenBook Q406da laptop, the left Shift key and several other keys (1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 0, P, =, ], and ) aren’t working. This issue started recently, and it’s inconsistent—sometimes the keys work if I press them constantly and wait a while.

System Information:

Laptop Model: ASUS ZenBook Q406da

Operating System: Windows 11

Keyboard Driver Version: 10.0.26100.1882

Purchased: 2020

Previous Issues: This has never been a problem before now.

Steps I’ve Already Tried:

  1. Restarted the laptop.
  2. Checked for any debris or dust under the keys except for the left shift key (no debris found underneath the keys)
  3. Verified that keyboard drivers are up to date.
  4. Attempted to locate and run the keyboard troubleshooter, but couldn’t find it in my settings.

I’d appreciate any guidance on additional troubleshooting steps or a solution to this issue, or confirmation if this could be a hardware or software problem. Thank you!

Hi Luis,

I'm Christine, I'll be happy to assist you. Looks like some keys on our keyboard are not working. No worries, I'll do my best to help you.

Is there any changes made before you got this issue?

Please try to use the OnScreen keyboard and check if the issue persists from there. To check, please press Windows key + R and type OSK then hit enter.

Kindly check and follow the steps below:

  1. Please press Windows key + X and choose device manager

Look for Keyboard option and expand it.

Please uninstall each keyboard driver and restart your device, that should be reinstalled after the reboot. Please check if the issue persists.

  1. Please try to perform System Restore:

How to:

Note: System Restore won’t delete your personal files, but it will uninstall apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point was created.

Please let me know the result. I'll be happy to assist you all the way until it's resolved.

Thank you,

Christine L

    Hi Christine,

Thank you so much for your help!

I haven’t made any changes before I got this issue. I tried the On-Screen Keyboard, and it worked perfectly fine.

I followed your suggestion to uninstall the keyboard driver and restart my device, and I’m happy to report that it worked! The keys are now functioning again.

I really appreciate your assistance in resolving this. Thanks again!

    Best regards,

    Luis
