Why won't my laptop play audio through HDMI?

I understand this is a common problem, but I have looked at countless articles and literally nothing has helped me.

I'm on Windows 11 using a Lenovo laptop, trying to play video and audio through an HDMI cable connected to a Vizio TV. Video is fine; audio is not.

I have already tried updating my drivers and updating my computer; neither have worked. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled my audio drivers to no avail. HDMI options do not appear in Sound settings as an option, even when "Show Disabled/Disconnected Devices" are toggled. HDMI options do not appear in Device Manager, and scanning for hardware changes on anything in Device Manager changes nothing. Additionally, the Playback tab in Sound does not give me any options to switch to or from.

Does anybody know any other solutions?

So Lenovo doesn't provide display adapter driver for Windows 11 at all for this model. As you can see, once you select Win11, most drivers options are gone. https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/lap...

However, looks like Intel still has driver you can download:

So, give it a try. Download and run the file. It might ask you to uninstall first. If so, then after it uninstalls, restart the computer and run the file again to install. See if that helps.

Note: These are not sites from Microsoft, but from manufacturer official sites.

    This was the ticket. I wasn't aware that the display adapter played a role, and had convinced myself it must be a Windows issue after some other hiccups that have proven themselves unrelated with this driver update you've provided.     Hello.

    HDMI audio is not from audio driver but from display adapter driver.

    First, hold down windows and R key and type in mmsys.cpl and press enter. When launched is the TV listed? If so make sure it’s not disabled and make sure it’s set as default device.

    If not, Can you share with me two screenshots please?

    1. Go to Device Manager > Display Adapters, I would like to see what's listed.
    2. Please type msinfo32.exe in the search on the taskbar and hit enter, then share a screenshot of the pop up.
