Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

ON your phone, when you connect your phone to the PC, check the USB connection settings to ensure that is set to either File Transfer or MTP.

Then in Windows, go to the Settings App - Bluetooth and Devices - AutoPlay.

Check the setting in there for what to do when your phone is connected, set that to your preferred option, like Open File Explorer...

update - now sorta SOLVED !!!

first had to implement developer options by pressing build number 7 times on settings/ 'about phone'

    then in-

settings/system updates/developer options 'select USB configuration' - this was set as charging only , changed to MTP

settings/system updates/developer options 'always prompt when connecting to USB' - this was already checked

as stated in question- I never had an issue connecting this phone to to win10 PC

shortly after this working , i tried again and no response - phone charge and give no prompt to connect , but subsequently i got it working again, then not

(I think im going to clean out port as getting charge but data connection in and out

weird that it seems to connect easier to WIN 10 desktop over WIN11 laptop)
