How to Change My Primary Microsoft Email

Trying to change the primary email address associated with my Windows account has been an exercise in circular frustration!

It's currently ******@OUTLOOK.COM probably related to a Windows installation some time ages ago. I don't use Outlook and I have a Microsoft 365 account now registered with the email address I use for everything else. I just want to use that one email address for everything to do with Microsoft. Right now, for example, when I try to use Onedrive, it thinks I have the default allocation of 5GB because of that stubborn primary email instead of the 100GB I actually have with with my Microsoft 365 account.

HELP!

Hello,

You can only change it if the Microsoft 365 account is also a personal Microsoft account. If it is a work or school account, that's a whole differen story.

To change, this is what you can do:

Go to Settings > Accounts > Your info

Click on Sign in with local user instead. follow the steps and finish the rest.

(If you don't see the "sign in with a local account instead option, click on "Stop signing into Microsoft apps automatically" first, then relaunch this page. )

Restart the computer (Do Not skip)

Go to Settings > Accounts > Your info

Click on Sign in with Microsoft account instead. follow the steps and finish the rest. Use the email address you want to use instead.
