Unable to create an all-purpose compute cluster. I made multiple attempts with different accounts, cluster configurations, and regions. But I am unable to create a cluster.

Kapil Chogga hi,

when u see 'compute terminated' in azure databricks, it usually means the backend said 'non' to your request. could be permissions, quotas, or maybe the cloud gods are just grumpy today )

check if u have enough compute quota in your azure subscription. sometimes the limit's hit and u don't even know it. go to the azure portal, find 'usage + quotas' under 'cost management', and see if u're maxed out azure quotas.

next, make sure your service principal or user account has the right roles. u need at least 'contributor' or 'owner' on the resource group. if u're using a service principal, double... eh, check its permissions azure roles.

also, peek at the activity log in azure portal. sometimes it whispers secrets about why the cluster got axed. look for errors around the time u tried creating it.

if u're in a corporate network, maybe the firewall's blocking something. worth a chat with your it folks.

don't forget region-specific issues. some regions run out of capacity like parisian bakeries on sunday morning ) try a different one.

lastly, if all else fails, the classic 'turn it off and on again' applies to the cloud too. restart your workspace or try after a little break.

merci for bringing this to the q&a, mon ami! hope this gets u unstuck. if not, come back.

Best regards,

Alex
