I currently unable to change my primary alias on my Microsoft account. My account was made back in 2013 on the Xbox 360, and it has ...@xboxlivefamily.com as the domain. I do not want that as the email associated with the account anymore and would rather have my actual personal email. However, when I go to the page that I can view account aliases and change the primary one, it say under the @xboxlivefamily.com address "Your organization's policies prevent you from changing your primary alias." I tried calling Microsoft support but got a stupid robot sending me to the useless help site instead, so now I am asking here. Thank you.

Hi Riley Colt

Thanks for using the Q&A platform.

Your @xboxlivefamily.com account is tied to a legacy child or family account structure that Microsoft used for Xbox Live accounts around 2013. These accounts were provisioned under a pseudo-organizational domain, and Microsoft treats them as managed accounts, even though they were set up for home use.

You can try adding a new alias but keeping your primary one attached. Then, try and sign in with the new alias and see if it allows you to sign in. If it does, then make the new alias primary and try again to see if it continues allowing you to sign in.
