Windows 11 laptop shows wrong location

My Windows 11 Home laptop (Version 10.0.22631, Build 22631) is showing the wrong city for Location.

In Settings > Privacy & Security > Location > Location Services turned ON shows the wrong city.  Curiously, if I change Location Services to OFF, it shows the correct city!

What am I doing wrong?  Thanks for any pointers, suggestions.

George

Hello George,

Thanks for the update! Please try to look for and install Windows Maps here or Official Microsoft App and check if the app is available in your region. In some regions, it may no longer be available because Microsoft is already deprecating it. If that's the case, then for now the best option is to keep Location Services set to Off and that's perfectly fine if it's showing the correct city for you. Again, thank you for trying and keeping me posted. I hope you have a good day!

Best Regards,

Jhun

    Hello George,

Thank you for the update. That means the Maps app needs to be installed again. You can check with the Microsoft Store and look for Windows Maps and install to download it. Once installed, return to Settings , Privacy & Security then Location and try to set up the location again. Please let me know how it goes. I really appreciate your time and effort on this.

    Best Regards,

    Jhun

    Hello George,

I hope you're doing well. I'm Jhun, an independent advisor. Sorry to hear that you're having concerns with this. Let me assist you. Sometimes, Windows tends to detect the location using Wi-Fi or IP address. In your case, this may be due to your windows trying to detect your IP address location, it may be routed to a far area or may picking up outdated Wi-Fi location.

For us to fix this, please try to manually add the location. First, keep your location services as On, then go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location and under Default location and select your correct city. You can also check and update the time zone (if needed) manually if it is also having the same concern. Once done, you may restart your laptop and see if your correct location is now showing right. I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Jhun
