Has anyone encountered the below issue? I'd be interested to know if it's a known bug or configuration issue with MS Edge before we invest time in reviewing our device configurations.

Device OS is Windows 10, 21H2.

Current Edge version: 105.0.1343.53 (at time of question).

Windows Defender Firewall prompts to allow "new_msedge.exe" through the firewall after Edge updates. You have to restart Edge twice to stop the prompt after cancelling.

This has occurred on at least 3 devices within our organisation so far. I assume this is a bug in the Edge update process, it is also concerning that the "new_msedge.exe" update is not signed before the update.

The message 'Windows Defender Firewall has blocked some features of this app'

Name: new_msedge.exe
Publisher: Unknown
Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\new_msedge.exe

    Hello there,

To make sure about this behavior can you try to uninstall the new update and see if things are normal?

You can also reinstall the edge which would create a new msedge.exe in that same directory . You can then check whether this is an malware or an configuration

Before allowing the process you can also make a complete system scan to make sure this is not triggered by malware.

You can use toils like process monitor to see the process which is triggering the warning. Process Monitor is an advanced monitoring tool for Windows that shows real-time file system, Registry and process/thread activity . https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/procmon
