Problem with office theme colors (Office 2019 VLC on premise)

Question

Dear All,

I just installed from scratch brand new computers with Windows 10 Enterprise and Office 2019 Pro Plus VLC.
I noticed that it's not possible to save the selection of office theme (Outlook, Word, Excel etc..)

With our old computers and Office 2016 we don't face to that issue.

I try to check the below option but it didn't work.

Can you please help me to fix my issue?

Could you please check the version numbers of Office and Windows systems on your computer？
On my test environment with Office 2019 Professional Plus and Windows 10 Enterprise, this issue could not be reproduced.

1. I suggest you update your Office to the latest to check this issue.
2. You could try to navigate to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common in Registry Editor, then modify the registry key value.
   Please note, before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.
   If you need to set Black as Theme color, you may enter 4 as the Value Data. (Colorful is 0, Dark Grey is 3, Black is 4 and White is 5)
   
   Then you may check whether this issue persists.
3. When nothing helps, please repair Office on Control Panel.

I run the xml file which is similar with yours, the same issue as yours too.

After my test, if you do not allow Office to connect to the Internet ( <User Key="software\microsoft\office\16.0\common\internet" Name="useonlinecontent" Value="0" Type="REG_DWORD" App="office16" Id="L_Onlinecontentoptions" />), the online services could not be accessed, the theme could also not be changed.
After I modiyed the value of useonlinecontent to be 2, this issue goes away.

Thank you for your response.

Actually, I use WSUS to update Windows 10 and Office to the latest version.
Office version 1808 (Build 10363.20015)
Windows 10 version 2004 (Build 19041.450)

I have that issue on all new computers I just installed but I noticed that I don't have the specific Dword 32 UI Theme value in the registry.

I created the value and put 3, it worked but I still not change it from Microsoft Office.

You gave me now a workaround and I can create a .reg file to change the theme.

I tried to repair Office on one computer but the problem persists.

Any ideas?

Hi,

No we are not logged in any Microsoft account because we don't need it. Furthermore our internet proxy server doesn't allow it.

The latest update will be applied at the begining of next month regarding our internal policies but in my opinion that's not the problem.

I used Update Office Customization Tool to create XML file then I donwloaded Office files locally on the server in order to run the setup locally.

Attached you can see my xml file without sensitive information.

Hello Emilyhua,

Actually I don't have Internet in the User Key software\microsoft\office\16.0\common\ but anyway, I can modify Office Theme in the registry or by GPO.
