Microsoft > An upcoming maintenance update will affect virtual machines in Central US, from 10 December 2022 01:42 UTC until 14 December 2022 01:42 UTC. During this planned maintenance window, IaaS virtual machines will be migrated to newer network hardware. Please expect each virtual machine to be unavailable for up to 15 minutes after initiating the maintenance. Operating system and data disks will be retained, but temporary disks will be reset.

This doesn’t work so well for us as we don’t’ know when this will happen.

Microsoft > For more control over when your virtual machines will be affected, migrate your deployments using the following steps for the Azure portal or PowerShell. You must complete the migration prior to 10 December 2022 01:42 UTC.

This is what we are trying to target. But what is the timeframe that this can be completed? Will this be taken care of with November patching this week? When is the update happening so we can plan the controlled restarts?

If you want to do it earlier - than the - Central US, from 10 December 2022 01:42 UTC until 14 December 2022 01:42 UTC. During this planned maintenance window, IaaS virtual machines will be migrated to newer network hardware.

Then migrating the servers, using the dellocate and start method, or the powershell supplied - then its up to you as a Microsoft customer to do this - ie during your patching window.

If its not done - before hand - then Microsoft will make the change for you - which could lead to the VMs going down during this time, if your happy with this - then do nothing, but if you want to have it done earlier - with less user impact during outages windows - then make the move earlier, during an agreed outage window - but it needs to be done before the 10th of December - otherwise Microsoft will do it for you.
