According to the Data Box Security and Data Protection documentation (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/databox/data-box-security), tamper protection is FIPS 140-2 level 2 certified. The Data Box Disk overview (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/databox/data-box-disk-overview) states "The disks are tamper-resistant and support secure update capability"; however, a FIPS 140-2 certification level is not stated.

Is the tamper protection provided for Data Box Disk also FIPS 140-2 certified and to what level?

@Eric J Nordberg Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum, Thank you for posting your query here!

If this is about Data Box Disk, the Micron disk currently used in non-SED so FIPS 140 does not apply. The one we are looking at using for hardware level encryption (should be the 5400 as the 5300 is close to EOL) is not FIPS 140 certified (neither is the 5300). Note Micron said they do not have plans to certify their line of SATA drives only their NVMe line.

Additional information : Disk is using Seagate ST10000NM0186 model. That is FIPS 140-2 level 2 certificated. See Seagate. for more details information

If you have any additional questions or need further clarification, please let me know.
