Hi we would like to replace file server from old hardware to new hardware

Old-Server 2012: Computer name=Server-A, ip=192.168.1.248
New-Server 2022: Computer name=Server-B, ip=192.168.1.250

Here are the steps.

  1. Robocopy all data from Server-A to Server-B
  2. On Server-A, save share names and permissions from registry
  3. On Server-B, restore above registry
    Ref to this

  4. Server-A, change computer name and ip address to others.
  5. Server-B, change computer name to Server-A and ip address to 192.168.1.248
    Done

All clients are not affected. Does it work? Please advise.

You may need to rename the servers when done or just remap the client shares. This one may also help.
