Windows 10, version 20H2 - Install error code 0x84BB0001

Question

After upgrading Windows 10 till Version 20H2. SQL Server 2019 Cumulative updates (SQLServer2019-KB4577194-x64.exe) failed with error code 0x84BB0001.

I have tried to:
• Remove SQL Server completed with removal from Apps, delete folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server, clean up regedit
• Uninstall antivirus program
• Grant more permissions in regedit (Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server)
• Run Framework Repair (FixDotNet20201031150343016.cab)
• Run installation as Administrator permission
• Run installation as Administrator built-un account.

I can install SQL Server 2019 Express (SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.exe), but not the CU (SQLServer2019-KB4577194-x64.exe). The error occurs on multiple computers.

Hi @BlazTU

Please get the offline installer for Microsoft Edge (Chromium).
Once you have it, run Edge installer and then try to run SQL Update again.

Please double check you have grant full permissions to below registry keys to the setup account and SQL Service account:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\150\
And please make sure you have uninstalled all antivirus software temporarily.
In addition, you can try to change the SQL Server service account and SQL Server Browser account to Local System in SQL Server Configuration Manager before installing CU8 for SQL Server 2019.
To uninstall Cumulative update, please go to Control Panel\Programs and Features\Installed updates.
