Hello,

Hope you are well. We are planning to migerate production servers to Azure IaaS and in this we are planning to use ASR for DR scenarios.

What kind of storage account do you recommend for virtula machines?

Can we use managed disk if we want to use ASR for site recovery?

Please advice.

    Hi Neeraj,

ASR fully supports managed disks, so you will be able to use them.

In regards to the type of storage account, I would suggest to run the Azure Site Recovery Deployment Planner:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/site-recovery-deployment-planner

This planner (PowerShell script) will run within your existing on-premises environment and capture data (the longer you let it run, the more accurate the data will be).
With this data, the planner will be able to produce a report that will tell you things like how much bandwidth you'll need to replicate your VM, what type of storage is needed in Azure, etc.

With this report, once you are ready to migrate, I would also suggest to take a look at the Azure Migrate service.
This tool is a more comprehensive migration tool (which uses ASR for the migration itself and has built-in assessment functions)
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/migrate/migrate-services-overview

    Hope this helps,

    Stephane
