Why does Microsoft Storage Space show 10GB used out of 921GB?

Hi, I have Windows 10 Enterprise Insider Preview Build 21337. I'm using Storage Spaces. I have a Samsung EVO 500GB SSD boot (C:), a Western Digital 10k 1TB HDD (D:), and 2 identical Samsung EVO 500GB SSD's. The 2 Samsung's are formatted ReFS. I'm using them for Storage Spaces. The 2 Samsung's do not have Drive letters. I don't want them on File Explorer. I created a Storage Pool, and created a Simple (no resiliency.) I'm using the Maximum size (around 930GB.) That's both Samsung's. My question is, why does Storage Spaces show 12GB used out of 930GB? I'm attaching a screenshot. I've had Storage Spaces or Storage Spaces Direct on Windows Server 2019. It shows the entire Disk's being used. On Storage Spaces. 930GB. So should my Windows 10 Enterprise Storage Spaces show only 12GB? Please reply. Thanks!

Anyone? Maximum 930GB? What speeds should I expect with Storage Spaces? ReFS. (2) Extra SSD's? Copying Large files 150MB/s or 400 MB/s off SSD. To HDD. Does that sound correct? Should I use Drive Letters for my SSD's? Please reply. Thanks

    Hi,

    Thank your for your posting!

Based on your descriptions, first I want to indentify whether 980GB is your total disk space for your physical storage pool or is the disk space that you assign for your storage space. Storage Spaces are technically virtual drives that appear in File Explorer as normal local storage, and each storage space you create can be less, equal, or greater to the amount of the physical capacity available in the storage pool. More information can be found below:

(Please note: Information posted in the given link is hosted by a third party. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy and effectiveness of information.)

If 980GB is the disk space that you assign for your storage space, then the 10GB may be attributed to any VHD disks that you create during the creation process of your storage space, or it may be caused by any applications or system updates which can occupy some extra disk space.

In addition, I doubt if the issue is related with your uninitialized SSDs, while whether to initialize disks up to your own condition. Initializing a disk erases everything on it and prepares it for use by Windows, after which you can format it and then store files on it. If your disk already has files on it that you care about, don't initialize it - you'll lose all the files. If not, I do suggest you to initialize them because otherwise, the additional space added to this disk in an expansion later may not be normally used.

Finally, in view of your expection for the speed of your storage space, you can view from Performance Monitor or Task Manager>> Performance. And I have found a relevant article for you:

    Thank you for your time!
