Data recidency for ZRS blob storage in North/East Europe

Hello,

I am working on a project where the physical location of stored data is very important. I would like to create a storage account and choose to have data redundancy set to zero redundant storage, so to store data in a datacenter in a specific region (either north or east europe). However, as I can understand from the Azure documentation page for storage redundancy ( https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/common/storage-redundancy ) when choosing ZRS, data is copied to three datacenters inside the specified region. However, both regions, north and east europe, only have one datacenter each, respectively located in Ireland and Netherlands. ( https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/global-infrastructure/data-residency/#overview ).
How can data be copied to three different datacenters within the region, if the region only has one datacenter?

    Hi @Oliver Damsgaard ,

    each Azure region is made up of several physical data centers in the area.
    This way it's possible to get the data redundancy in the same region.

    In Europe it's the region North Europe in Irland and West Europe in the Netherlands (not East Europe like you wrote above).
    Each region in Europe offer 3 Availabilty Zones.

    Hello Andreas,

    Sorry I got the east/west mixed up, but you are correct.
    So if I understant you correctly , there are several datacenters located around Ireland, and and so if choosing the region of North Europe, though only specified as having location in Ireland, data is stored across three of the available datacenters located in Ireland?

    An Availability Zone is a high-availability offering that protects your applications and data from datacenter failures. Availability Zones are unique physical locations within an Azure region

    My understanding:

    • An Azure region is a set (I don't the numbers) of datacenters (Buildings/Locations).
    • These different datacenters of an Azure regions are bundled in Availabilty Zones (for instances 3 Availabilty Zones in North Europe).
