Windows apps black screen - windows 10

So I had a problem a while ago which was when I opened (Movies & TV) and tried to press any button in the app it would give me a black screen and I would have to keep spamming alt+tab until the black screen was gone.

and just a few days ago all windows apps had the same issue but worse; when I try to open any windows app it would give me the black screen and I would have to spam alt+tab to fix it too but even after I got rid of the black screen I could never use the apps if I try to tab back into the app it would black screen again until I completely closed the app which wasn't easy either.

I tried to look for so many fixes and tried everything, but nothing seemed to work, so I reinstalled windows and made it so that it would leave nothing on my C drive when it was done everything was fine for like an hour then all of the sudden I try to open windows settings and a black screen again, same as before, but all other windows apps where fine.

I was trying anything to fix it but nothing then I right-clicked settings and pressed app settings it opened fine and I could navigate every bit of the settings but as soon as I pressed home it would black screen just like before which is pretty weird that only the home screen in the settings gives the black screen now.

If anyone can help me with this issue I would be very grateful.

    Hi
We can follow the below methods to troubleshoot the issue:

    Method 1: Microsoft safety scanner
Run a full computer scan with the Microsoft Safety Scanner to make sure that the computer is virus free. We can download it from Microsoft Safety Scanner Download - Windows security | Microsoft Learn

    Method 2:System maintenance troubleshooter
Go to control panel and select system and maintenance, then select troubleshooting.

    Method 3:DISM.exe & SFC
We can select command prompt (admin), type the following command :DISM.exe/online/cleanup-image/Restorehealth
    Or sfc/scannow
Through the two command ,we can locate the specific problem trying to solve it.

Method 4: Fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store
Consider updates and fixes from https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/fix-problems-with-apps-from-microsoft-store-93ed0bcf-9c12-3df6-6dda-92ec5d0415ac .

    Method 5: Reinstall image
Please download image from https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10 and do not install 3rd party programs ,create a new local admin account.
    Then, test the settings.

    Best regards
    Miles

    I also have this issue.

    I have a multi-monitor setup with three 4k monitors.

    Windows 10

    32GB RAM

    5600x AMD processor

    nVidia 3080 Ti graphics card

It most often occurs with apps installed from the windows store. When I click into certain apps the entire screen the app is on will go black. My other monitors will generally stay on, but occasionally multiple will go black too.

When I click out of the app, even if the app still displays on that screen, after ~10s the screen will come back on.

When I take screenshots while the screen is black, everything appears normal.

When I remote stream with something like nVidia Game stream, everything works normally on the stream, even if the actual screen itself is black.

    Example apps this happens with

Windows Remote Desktop (both with RemoteDesktop_1.2.4582.0_x64.msi version and windows store version) - it always happens with this app

    Adguard - sometimes

Deepl (windows store app) - sometimes

This never happens with web browsers such as chrome, firefox, edge

This sometimes happens when playing video games

Usually a reboot solves the issues with apps that sometimes cause the screen to go black, but e.g. for Windows Remote Desktop the app is basically unusable for me as my screen goes black every time I click into it, and it's terrible if I go fullscreen across 3 monitors

This issue has been occuring for me for a few years, but I can generally avoid running into it by using installer apps rather than windows store apps

I've reinstalled windows twice during that time, once with a repair and once with a completely fresh install and disk wipe.
