Authenticate Azure REST API using username and Password

My requirement is to run a Data Factory pipeline using REST API on 3rd party tool. I want to authenticate Azure REST API against Username and Password , generate a bearer token and provide the token to the my Data Factory REST API to run the pipeline.

You can acquire a token under user context by using the POST Call and Body as mentioned below:

Note:

Azure Resource Manager provider APIs use https://management.azure.com/, and Azure classic deployment model uses https://management.core.windows.net/.
Make sure you add below API permission to the App, client id of which is specified in the above request body and grant admin consent.
In this Microsoft Documentation, client context is used for authentication. I would suggest you to test user context before using it in production.

Thanks @AmanpreetSingh-MSFT for quick response. I see that you have an App registered and granted admin consent under API permissions.

I want this API to be accessed to only for a limited number of users. The others who will access this URL needs to get an Authentication error. Is this possible?

@Sukumar Vinnakota · In that case, you need to set "User assignment required" to YES and assign only the required set of users to the app.

Navigate to Azure Active Directory > Enterprise Applications > Open the application > Properties > set "User assignment required" to YES.

In the application > Click on Users and Groups > add required users.

Is it necessary to create client secret as we are already providing the Username and Password for authentication.

@Sukumar Vinnakota · Yes, it is required. Otherwise, you will get error AADSTS7000218: The request body must contain the following parameter: 'client_assertion' or 'client_secret'.
